Fear

I was asked to write a poem on a strong emotion. This is what I came up with:

Fear

Face pressed against the wall
not daring to breathe
her eyes giant clocks
ticking like bombs
fingers gripping granite
red and ragged like
crushed lipsticks
waiting for the blow
splintering her skinny skull
spreading her wretched life
on the street
like trinkets sold
to unsuspecting tourists

  1. For a moment, felt myself, being transported back, to a darker time, in my life, which your poem would have described it, perfectly. A place, I don’t to go back to, ever again.
